Advanced Gum Depigmentation
Eradicate Dark Pigmentation. Reveal a Healthy, Pink Aesthetic.
The Aesthetic Frame of Your Smile
A flawless smile requires more than perfectly white teeth; the soft tissue framing them is equally critical. For many individuals, excess melanin production or environmental factors cause the gums to appear dark, patchy, or brown. While often a harmless genetic trait, gingival hyperpigmentation can severely detract from the vibrancy of your smile and lower your self-confidence.
At Rattan Dental Care, our resident Periodontist, Dr. Manvi Narula, specializes in advanced gum depigmentation to permanently restore a healthy, uniform pink aesthetic to your soft tissue. Utilizing highly controlled, minimally invasive micro-surgical and laser protocols at our Greater Noida clinic, we safely remove the hyper-pigmented outer layer of the gingiva. The procedure is painless, highly effective, and reveals the bright, natural tissue underneath in just a single visit.

Understanding Gingival Hyperpigmentation
The color of your gums is determined by the same pigment that dictates your skin color: melanin. When melanocytes (pigment-producing cells) in the gum tissue are overactive, they deposit dense concentrations of melanin into the outer layer of the gums. This results in dark brown or black patches. While genetics is the primary cause, heavy tobacco use (known as smoker’s melanosis) and certain systemic medications can also trigger this dark discoloration. Gum depigmentation directly targets and eliminates these overactive cells.
The Depigmentation Protocol
As a periodontal specialist, Dr. Manvi Narula executes this procedure with extreme precision to ensure optimal aesthetic results and rapid healing:
- Periodontal Assessment: Before any cosmetic procedure, we thoroughly evaluate your gums to ensure they are free of active gingivitis or periodontal disease. Healthy gums are a prerequisite for depigmentation.
- Total Desensitization: We administer a highly effective local anesthetic to completely numb the gingival tissue. You will feel zero pain during the procedure.
- Precision Pigment Eradication: Using advanced laser technology or micro-abrasion techniques, Dr. Narula gently vaporizes or removes the ultra-thin epithelium layer of the gums where the melanin is trapped.
- Rapid Regeneration: Once the pigmented layer is removed, the body naturally heals and regenerates a new, healthy layer of tissue over the next few days—this time, without the excess melanin, resulting in a beautifully uniform pink color.
Why Trust a Periodontist?
The gums are highly sensitive and complex structures. In the hands of an inexperienced provider, aggressive depigmentation can lead to permanent tissue damage or gum recession. Dr. Manvi Narula’s specialized training in periodontology ensures that the depth of the treatment is perfectly calibrated. We remove exactly enough tissue to eliminate the dark pigment, while strictly protecting the underlying connective tissue and tooth roots.
Who is the Ideal Candidate?
This procedure is perfect for healthy individuals who are self-conscious about dark or splotchy gums. If your dark gums are caused by smoking, we highly recommend initiating a smoking cessation plan prior to treatment to prevent the melanin from returning. Patients with thin gum biotypes or active periodontal infections will require pre-treatment conditioning before undergoing depigmentation.
